Why we love this Wine
Justine Henschke – a sixth generation member of the Henschke winemaking family – is not only a great friend of Sometimes Always, but the wine industry in general. That’s why we couldn’t think of anyone better to piece together a Mixed Pack of some of her favourite wines from near and far.
Below are the wines included in the pack, with comments from Justine on why she chose them in particular.
Dr Edge 2019 Pinot Noir
“Was lucky enough to be called in as a judge for Hot 100 Wines SA (2018) by Head Judge at the time, Peter Dredge. We drank some of his wines at Sunny’s one night – they are absolutely delicious.”
Giant Steps 2019 Yarra Valley Chardonnay
“A glass or two of this wine got me through a Wine Australia consumer tasting at Wally’s in LA last September. Will always remember being in this amazing place with some legendary Australian winemakers, such as Steve Flamsteed and Virginia Wilcox. (Thanks for the wine, Steve!)”
Henschke 2015 The Rose Grower Nebbiolo
“One of my favourite Henschke wines. Nebbiolo vines planted by my parents in the Eden Valley in 2002. Rose petals, rose-hip and earth. Campari. Complex. Fresh acidity and fine tannin. Chill slightly and drink through the warmer months too.”
Vietti 2017 Perbacco Nebbiolo
“Bit of a Vietti fan. Brought one home recently for a family dinner and loved how intensely perfumed and elegant it was. Great value and a stunning wine.”
Dr Loosen 2019 Bernkasteler Lay Kabinett Riesling
“Growing up in the Eden Valley = Riesling drinker. Mum and Dad put us kids through a couple of months of school in Germany while they were working vintage at Domaine Dujac in Burgundy. We stayed with the Klein family of Weingut Louis Klein in Traben-Trarbach. Dr Loosen has always been a family favourite – a classic producer of such beautiful rieslings.”
Moreau-Naudet 2018 Petit Chablis
“Recently became a lover of this producer and think that this Petit Chablis is pretty damn fine. Dry, crisp acidity, citrussy, almost salty.”
