The beating heart of Margaret River
Voyager Estate has firmly carved their names as a ventricle in the beating heart of the Margaret River. At the helm of this pulsating powerhouse, is one of Australia’s leading ladies of the industry, Alexandra Burt.
Paving the way for women to lead from the front in the industry, she took over the reins from her dad in 2012 and has worked alongside Voyager Illuminati, and winemaking literati, Steve James, who has firmly planted an environmentally driven culture into the very roots of this winery’s ethos. James, along with his long-standing viticulture and winemaking team, have thrust the winery into the modern era, fully supported by Alex’s commitment to leaving a sustainable legacy for future generations.
Sustainable principles and the latest in technology
One technology in particular, a state-of-the-art sorting table, helps hand-sort red fruit - removing leaves, stalks and other materials, ensuring that only the most illustrious fruit enters the fermentation vessel. Helping cement themselves as a vital organ of the WA wine industry, is the use of a high-precision peristaltic pump in order to move the wines around as delicately as possible.
Most proudly, this year marks the wineries first official voyage into the seas of certified organic wine, with nearly 40Ha of vines officially granted organic certification by the ACO (Australian Certified Organic). The winery was also certified as an organic processor, enabling their Voyager Estate Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon wines to be certified organic from the 2020 vintage onwards.
