Fumey Chatelain

Fumey Chatelain

It was the early 90s when Fumey Chatelain had a vineyard on the rise, then nearly lost everything to frost. So what to do? Raphaël and Adeline puckered up and started making some of the best drops around from what they had left. Borrowed barrels, the help of local families. A brave start to their bold Domaine.

Today, their wines are among the most sought-after in the Jura: organic, wild fermented and like so many Jura wines, there's a little quirk factor here, but they're endlessly endearing. The vineyards sit on an ancient Jurassic seabed with marl and fossil-rich marine limestone soils leaving a distinct salty fingerprint.

In 2020, Marin Fumey rushed home from harvest in Australia to join his parents on the estate. Ever since, Raphaël has tended the vines, Adeline has ran sales, and Marin has steered the winemaking.
Before returning to Jura, Marin chased vintages across Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, working with the likes of Spinifex in Barossa, Barn Cottage in Central Otago and Peter-Allan Finlayson’s Crystallum in South Africa, returning home with a well-worn passport and plenty of hands-on experience.

All these years later, Marin, Raphaël and Adeline are still at the mercy of Mother Nature, but you’d never guess it from their precision and purity. A nervy freshness runs through the range and seamless acidity that makes these wines both immediate and enduring. Consider this your permission slip.
