A winemaker’s philosophy is often what a consumer can most easily buy into.

Organic or biodynamic are fast-growing movements that have a loyal fanbase, but even these practices tend to add some treatments to the land, albeit natural remedies in lieu of sprays and some sulphur to stabilise the wine in bottle.

Frank Cornelissen does none of these things.

He is completely at the mercy of Mother Nature, an extreme version of the natural wine movement. What’s more, the wines are grown in Sicily on the side of Mt Etna, one of the world’s most active volcanoes. Now that’s a story.
