Petit Meslier is rare enough in France, where it plays a part in some of the most elegant champagne blends, in the Adelaide Hills, it's almost non existent.
Named after the winemakers four legged family — Lévrier, French for Greyhound, because rare and elegant apparently runs in the family.
Green apple and white blossom up front, a savoury, leafy raspberry edge underneath — this is the grape's famous acid line doing the talking, the same searing tartness that keeps it useful in hot Champagne vintages. No fruit bomb to hide behind. Crisp, taut, almost austere, in the best way.
