Why we love this Wine
Pineau d’Aunis is a red grape with a long history, native to the Loire Valley. When we say long history, we don't just mean the grape at large— the very vines that gave rise to this here wine were planted in Touraine 50-120 years ago. Someone clearly anticipated the world would need more earthy, peppery light reds with a berry-laden nose and a savoury, spice base. If you've never tried the rarer style, this is a faithful translation: hand-harvested fruit is macerated 2 weeks in stainless steel tanks, then aged 6 months in concrete tanks. Light filtration, low sulfur, high delicious.
