Jean-Baptiste Courdesses makes playful natural wines out of Basket Range in the Adelaide Hills, a real hub of small local outfits making a splash in the big wide wine world. This organically-grown classic blend begins with Syrah, carbonically macerated to aromatic, moody perfection, while Viognier from an abandoned vineyard adds a little lift. Seven months maturation in French barriques gets the job well and truly done.
