The first-time single vineyard release of a special site: 2.5ha in Basket Range, a steep slope surrounded by native forest, with rich red clay and a northerly aspect. This is a style of Chardonnay that lets fruit characters shine through brightly, with white peaches and apricots on the palate alongside schisty minerality. Full concentration and a rigid spine. Whole bunches were pressed to tank for settling over night before racking off heavy solids to barrels; 11 months in French and Austrian oak, 20% of it new. Full malolactic fermentation, and full of heart. Only 1501 bottles made (sorry if you like round numbers).
