Four winemakers with no interest in hiding where the wine comes from — Envínate make their names on sites most would call unfarmable, and Tenerife's volcanic slopes qualify. Benje Blanco comes off ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines grown in black volcanic ash on the island's north coast, head-trained low to survive the wind. Wild ferment, old oak and stainless, extended lees contact, no filtering to speak of. Salty, smoky, citrus-driven, with a bruised apple weight and a mineral finish that tastes like the rock it grew in. Mind = blown.
