Why we love this Wine

Eight generations of Morgon Gamay, and then Claude-Emmanuelle and Louis-Benoît go and plant Chardonnay. A tiny 0.26-hectare plot just outside the appellation, on the same deep clay as their celebrated reds below the Côte du Py. Organic, hand harvested, whole bunch, seven months in concrete eggs. No oak — sans bois ni lois (without wood or rules), as they cheekily call it. Mineral, precise, white flowers and citrus with a clay-driven roundness underneath. A first in eight generations. Won’t be the last.
