Chulato is Rioja slang for cocky, and this wine earns the name — it's the house pour in half the bars of the region, made by the Abeica family in Ábalos, now four generations deep. Tempranillo with a splash of Garnacha and Viura, whole-bunch, carbonic maceration, straight into stainless steel. No oak, no fuss. Strawberry, raspberry, redcurrant, a teensy sprinkle of peppery fun. Light frame, soft tannin, acid making things fun. Chill it hard. Drink it young. That's the whole thing.
