Poppelvej

Full of Heart
What the hell is Poppelvej? It’s the passion project of Uffe Deichmann, while also a nod to the poplar-tree-lined street where the Danish winemaker grew up. Uprooted and transplanted to McLaren Vale in South Australia (lucky us), he produces exciting wines with a lo-fi approach.
Having previously worked as a sommelier in Copenhagen, the majority of his production has always disappeared to be consumed in fine diners overseas, keeping his wines super limited and sought after in Australia.
Let’s See If We Can
That left us chasing just a little bit more for our own shelves this year and we weren’t disappointed.
From a blink-and-you-miss-it garage operation, always humble and full of heart.
Seeking out fruit from sustainable vineyards, Uffe Deichmann makes wine as naturally as has can. Wild ferments, no additions and minuscule (if any) sulphur. It’s a familiar story (and one oft admired) but these wines are never to be pigeonholed.
Uffe has put his unique stamp on everything from racy and light drinking to bold projects born from the simple idea, ‘let’s see if we can’. Turns out, he can.
It’s that deft touch that sees Uffe dancing between ceramic egg experimentation and old oak simplicity each year.
Always offering something of interest, Poppelvej wines feel like they were made for pure enjoyment before transcending that ‘fun’ tag, becoming the little treasures you see here now.
