Claus Preisinger
Austrian Royalty
Claus Preisinger is one of the beloved princes of the natural wine movement in Austria, breathing new life into Austrian vintners through his delicate upheaval of winemaking traditions. Claus’ biodynamic vineyards sprawl across 19 hectares of family property in Gols, a small Disney-esque hamlet in the Burgenland region of Austria.
Indigenous varieties take starring roles in his production and his examples are bright, pure and instinctual. Producing household Austrian red varietals of Zweigelt, Blaufränkish, and St. Laurent, he has also experimented with white varieties, with his recent offerings of a Grüner Veltliner and Pinot Blanc garnering cult status amongst wine cognoscenti.

Biodynamic Philosophy
Claus is a passionate biodynamic farmer, following the principles of his natty forefather, and Christian mystic, Rudolf Steiner whose philosophy emphasises respect for the soil, plants, animals, and the natural environment.

Claus mystifies the industry with his own touch of wizardry, proudly infusing old world biodynamic techniques, such as humus production (manure in cow horns) and Georgian Amphorae (Terracotta storage), with new world homeopathic sorcery, infusing yarrow blossoms (mentioned in Homer’s Illiad for treating wounds), chamomile (a natural antiseptic) and stinging nettles (a natural cleanser).
“The wines are bottled just as they are, natural and low-tech, a reflection of Claus’ own cool, calm and collected nature”
