Xinomavro and Greece are probably not the first words that come to mind when the discussion turns to the topic of 'Great wines of the world'. But this may be a bottle that makes the case. Apostolos Thymiopoulos is widely credited with reshaping what Naoussa can do. Serious tannin structure without ever losing the fruit. Grapes come off 45-year-old plantings in Trilofos and Fytia, aged eighteen months in third-use 500-litre barrels. Black and blue berries, mediterranean plums, truffle and something a bit wild or ferrous, laced with fine, persistent tannin. Built to age. Built to argue about.
