If you want to taste Piedmont at its Piedmont-est, the 2019 vintage was a quintessential year, with abundant spring rains to survive the summer. In Sordo's Barolo Classico, 80% of the Nebbiolo fruit originates in La Morra, a small commune in the Province of Cuneo, where it was once illegal to cut down Nebbiolo vines (penalties included hanging and losing a hand). If that sounds extreme, it's because you haven't tasted this lively, textured, generous drop packed with dark fruit and chocolatey tannin. Hands down, worth it.
