Why we love this Wine
It's all about the vines, kiddo. Pelaverga is a seldom-seen variety indigenous to the Verduno region of Piedmont, used to produce heavy-on-aroma, lighter bodied reds. Think of it as Pinot Noir's savoury cousin, or Nebbiolo's peppery sister. Scarpa's plantings go back to 1970, grafted onto in 2019, and the vines simply thrive in the region's sandy, limestone-rich soils. The 2022 is light and luscious; roses, leather, spice and red berries. Silken stuff.
