White Burgundy is the reputation. Red Burgundy is the flex. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey earned cult status turning Chardonnay into something people queue for — this is proof he can pull the same trick with Pinot Noir. Pierre-Yves cut his teeth at his father's domaine before striking out with wife Caroline Morey, chasing purity over polish. Les Riottes is a tiny monopole plot in Monthelie, the address wedged between Volnay's swagger and Meursault's polish, credited for neither. Black cherry and blackcurrant up front, plum and iron underneath, a curl of smoky oak spice holding the shape. Silky rather than structured, with a savoury, earthy pull keeping it honest. Rare address. Rarer red.
