La Piece d'Or, a piece of gold, or coin, pulls fruit from one patch of vineyard where every soil type in Saumur shows up at once — limestone, clay, flint and sand, all tangled together. Fermented and raised in concrete, so nothing but the fruit and the dirt gets a say. Juicy, jubey red fruit with a leafy green edge running through it. Cabernet Franc from Saumur really has the golden ticket.
