Greece's wine culture is truly ancient and the island of Santorini plays a large part in it, based on the historic grape called Assyrtiko. Some of these vines are pushing two centuries old, some of the oldest in the world. Estate Argyros has farmed Santorini since 1903, training the vines into traditional basket-shaped kouloura to survive the island's relentless wind. Organic, ungrafted, dry-farmed in black volcanic soil — this is Assyrtiko in its highest form. Zippy lemon pith, crushed shell, wet stone, and a saline finish that lingers long after the glass is empty. Serious juice. Serious island.
