Aligoté usually gets treated as Burgundy's consolation prize. Raphaël Bertrand and partner Catarina set out to change that with Le Moisenot — a single plot of 40-year-old vines on clay-limestone in Barizey, farmed by a family that's worked Côte Chalonnaise soil since 1911. Part aged in oak, part raised in egg-shaped tanks to keep the fruit lively and fresh. Peach, pineapple, bergamot, kumquat, a thread of pine. Round and saline, with a tangy, invigorating snap on the finish. Aligoté with something to prove.
