Grignolino, 100%, grown 400m above sea level in Piedmont. Height isn't everything (we're told) but in those Villamiroglio clay soils the grapes are stunningly vital by the time they're hand-pulled from the vine in the first week of October. Cascina Val Liberata might be known for their Nebbs, but this medium-bodied red makes a fresh, juicy case for continuing to diversify. Strawberries, raspberries and pomegranate gems.
