In Piemonte, where the structured Nebbiolo wines of Barolo & Barbaresco rule the roost, Barbera gives us a plush, racy burst of Northern Italian terroir that is remarkably approachable in its youth. Pure bouncy cherry and summer berry fruits with an undercurrent of amaro herbs and the tell-tale swift acidity that the variety is famous for, it makes for lovely, characterful and true drinking from one of the world’s great wine regions.
