Rob Mack built Aphelion on Grenache, so when he takes on Falanghina from the Seaview sub-district of McLaren Vale you pay attention. Only the second crop from the Oliver family vineyard, this grape feels right at home — warm days, coastal influence, naturally high acid from a late-ripening variety that’s spent centuries near the sea in Campania. Citrus, stone fruit, florals, a mineral thread underneath. Bright, textural, precise. Grenache country turns out to be good Falanghina country. Who knew.
