We’ve been super excited to have these mezcals in at Sometimes Always HQ for the very first time. From the rolling hills of the Oaxacan Sierra, Madre’s mezcals are made by hand in super limited quantities and bottled in recycled glass.
To celebrate their arrival, we asked Sommelier Guy to create a sundowner recipe starring this agave spirit. For you to shake at home: The Desert Ranger, our smoky twist on The Lone Ranger.

INGREDIENTS
45ml Madre Mezcal Ensamble
25ml lemon juice
15ml simple syrup
60ml Italian Plastic Pét-Nat Rosé
Lemon twist
45ml Madre Mezcal Ensamble
25ml lemon juice
15ml simple syrup
60ml Italian Plastic Pét-Nat Rosé

METHOD
Combine mezcal, lemon juice and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake, then strain into an ice-filled Collins or highball glass. Top with Pét-Nat and garnish with a lemon twist.
HOT TIP
Simple syrup can be made at home from equal parts sugar and water. Bring to the boil and stir until sugar is dissolved, remove from the heat and cool before using.
