Good Intentions Wine Co.
The word rock-star gets bandied about too often in the wine world, but husband and wife team, Andrew and Louise of Good Intentions Wine Co. lay a decent claim on the term with their palpable passion for all things wine, soil and volcanic rock related.
No superfluous superlatives here, just minimal intervention wine with oodles of charisma– proof that forgoing frills is far from boring, good that’s better than best. Heading up a family winery with a heap of heart, Andrew and Louise enjoyed their first vintage in 2014 alongside the birth of their first daughter. No small undertaking, but the results of the long days and sleepless nights are ongoingly evident. You can taste the love in every bottle (and just a little of the blood, sweat and tears).

The wines are shining examples of Limestone Coast viticulture, champions for the rich and utterly unique terroir of Mount Gambier and beyond. In the vineyard, herbicides are forgone in favour of fermented seaweed concoctions, choosing organic copper and sulphurs as chemical spray alternatives to stave off mildew, enriching soils with worm castings and enlisting sheep to keep the weeds at bay. These are vines tended with a homesteading heart, resulting in wines with striking local identity.
We’d never be so uncouth as to shop by label. But if we did, they’d hold up; these are labels louder than Dennis Rodman in his hey-day, care of Tim Goschnick, all sixties psychedelia and surrealism, colour and detail well befitting the eccentric character inside the bottle.
