Sam Christie is a serial restaurateur from Sydney, whose impressive career has so far spanned more than 3 decades. 

Working in some of Australia’s most iconic restaurants, Christie began his journey at the quintessential Bayswater Brasserie, before moving on to three-hatted Bilson’s followed by multi-award winning and internationally renowned Tetsuya’s. 

Christie opened his first venture, Longrain in 1999 in Sydney’s Surry Hills, the restaurant and Christie himself soon gained popularity and the ground breaking modern Thai restaurant was expanded to Melbourne and Tokyo.

Creator of some of our most loved restaurants

Sam is now partnered alongside Executive Chef Jonathan Barthelmess in two of his latest ventures, the beloved modern Greek taverna The Apollo and the izakaya inspired Cho Cho San, both in Potts Point NSW. 

He continues to take charge of writing the wine lists ​​at both restaurants, creating a sample of his favourite gluggable wines from local wine maker and importer friends. Christie promotes wine education among his team and customers alike, keeping a focus on both classic and alternate varieties that are highly drinkable and pair well with food.

Jim Barry Assyrtiko 2020

Greece’s most well-regarded white variety Assyrtiko – is originally from the island of Santorini – but it is now planted all over Greece and in the Clare Valley. This expression cries out for some barbequed seafood and a squeeze of lemon.

Monte Carbone Soave Classico Garganega 2018

Just saying soave is almost enough. This stylish label and bottle belies the fact that this is a truly complex, slightly pithy, textural yet clean expression of Garganega.

Cobaw Ridge Il Pinko Rosé 2020

Made from shiraz grown by the incredible Cooper family, this is a serious yet super glug-able wine. It is easily one of the best rosés in the country.

COS Frappato 2020

Probably one of the lightest red wines doing the rounds, this Frappato loves a slight chill and can be drunk day or night, with nothing or everything.

Pierre-Marie Chermette Griottes Beaujolais Gamay 2020

Highly consistent, entry level Beaujolais that exemplifies the grape variety by being both complex, light and very drinkable.

SC Pannell Grenache, Shiraz, Touriga 2017

GST. This wine is no tax on my palate, lovely spicy, juiciness and balanced, it comes from three varieties. Steve Pannell has a masterful touch, it would be great to drink with Pepperoni pizza.
