Ben Haines - Syrah 2020 Stargazer - Palisander Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019 Yarra Yering - Pinot Noir 2018 Rill House - My Deer Bride Chardonnay 2019 Crawford River - Riesling 2019 Bellebonne - Bis Rosé NV
“There is something so well executed about the Bellebonne wines. Pale in colour, dry, persistent and just plain delicious. Turkish delight, strawberries and candied rhubarb with acid for days. It should come as no surprise that Natalie Fryar has decades of experience making sparkling wines for some top names in Australia.”
Crawford River - Riesling 2019
“From a lesser known and even lesser visited region in the far western corner of Victoria, Belinda Thompson is crafting some of the best Rieslings this country has to offer. Lithe, dry, zesty and approachable now, or will develop magnificently with age. So much character and dangerously moreish. Get some rizza inya.”
Rill House - ‘My Deer Bride’ Chardonnay 2019
“During the first lockdown, I was so fortunate to have found work at the Woodend Wine Store with Caz Bailey. She’s a legend. One day this wine arrived, a well marketed Macedon Chardonnay that I hadn’t ever heard of. I bought it and shared it with two close sommelier friends and we were all shocked. Poise, elegance, balance. Ripe nectarines and quince with a fair thwack of oak coupled with ‘struck match’ complexity — very impressive. From a tiny vineyard planted in 1986 abutting the Wombat State Forest 650 metres above the sea.”
Yarra Yering - Pinot Noir 2018
“This is a seriously delicious Pinot Noir, think black cherries and plum with impossibly executed vanilla oak and five spice all coddled by fine grained, persistent tannin catapulted by mouth-watering acidity. Sarah Crowe is slaying.”
Stargazer - ‘Palisander Vineyard’ Pinot Noir 2019
“There is a level of detail and finesse to Sam’s wines that is second to none. The fruit purity is crystalline — ripe cherry, blackberry and a distinctive black pepper character coupled with flinty reductive complexity and crunchy acidity all framed by incredibly elegant and tenacious tannins. Yum!”
Ben Haines - Syrah 2020
“Ben and I studied in the Master of Wine program together. His mind is amazing and his palate fine-tuned; I’m very envious of his ability to taste and write. I prefer cool climate Syrah with bright acid, lively fruit, judicious oak use, and that addictive, moreish cracked black pepper rotundone complexity. This has all of that in spades.”
